OPDL 2017-2018 Trials

Ontario Player Development League - OPDL (2005-2001 players)

Launched in 2014 with the 2001 age group, the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) is one of the province's first standards-based, youth high performance league that combines top level competition with high performance training standards. This innovative exciting youth high performance program is an important component of the overall movement to adopt the core principles of Long Term Player Development (LTPD) across soccer at large in Ontario and Canada. By 2018, OPDL will encompass the U13 to U17 age categories, for both males and females.

In order to attend trials with another License Holder before the end of their existing commitment on December 31st of the current year, OPDL players are still required to obtain a written permission from the Technical Director at their existing License Holder. An email is considered a valid form of permission and Technical Directors are expected to respond within a reasonable time.

2005 Trials

For those starting OPDL born in 2005 this is a new adventure, and can be confusing so let's hope we can help.  OPDL follows a three phase trial process:

Phase 1: Open trials (2005 only) are announced and advertised here. This is for 2005 born players interested in both our OPDL and corresponding competitive teams. Players from Phase 1 will be informed of one of three options:

  1. that they have not been offered a spot in the OPDL team, and instead potentially offered a spot on a corresponding competitive team;
  2. that they have been asked to return for Phase 2 of the OPDL Trial Process, as per below,
  3. or offered a direct spot to the OPDL team. The player will attend sessions in November and will be emailed relevant information following the offer.

Phase 2 (REVISED dates listed below): Registration is now open as Phase 1 has been completed.  Players can register here for OPDL specific trials taking place in November at a cost of $60 which covers 3 trial sessions.  There is a total of 8 sessions throughout November and you may choose to attend any 3 of the following sessions. Players may choose to skip Phase 1 but reduce their chances of being noticed by coaches. At the end of Phase 2 players will be informed of one of three options:

  1. invited back for Phase 3 of trials in January, commencing the week of January 15th 2018,
  2. informed that will not be given an OPDL spot and invited to join our second team with potential for call-up status to OPDL;
  3. or offered a direct spot to the OPDL, commencing the week of January 15th 2018.

Phase 3: This Phase is invitation only. NTSC are required to submit a roster of 14 players to Ontario Soccer by February 1st. The remainder of the full-time roster will be submitted by April 1st.
